Senegal (“Senek”) is a 16-year-old, small but remarkably successful eventing horse. From the very first moment, there was a special connection between him and his owner: courage, a huge heart for work, and an exceptional love for cross-country quickly made them a true dream team. Yet, the same energy that carried Senek to the best times on the course and in the field sometimes became a trap - the pace would spiral out of control, and maintaining a calm, even ride required superhuman focus.

When I first met Senegal, I instantly knew - this was the one. There was something unique between us right from the start. Senek has a huge heart, incredible work ethic, and an extraordinary passion for cross-country. I’ve never met another horse who loves this phase so much - for him, it’s pure joy, fun, and freedom. Out on the course, he comes alive, shines, and shows his endless energy. He’s brave, strong, full of character, yet incredibly loyal and eager to cooperate.

But that same boundless energy that makes him so special was also our greatest challenge. The pace he could set often slipped beyond control - first in show jumping, and later in cross-country too. He was so fast that he almost always had the best time in the competition, even when that wasn’t the goal. Keeping him balanced required immense focus, and even then, a calm and consistent round was hard to achieve.
